PROMOTION and PANEL DEBATE “Social-democracy in Sweden and Macedonia – History, Principles, Perspectives”
Friedrich Ebert Stiftung, office Macedonia together with Progres Institute, Skopje, Olof Palme International Center and ABF Sweden on the 16th of January 2009 organized a promotion and panel debate about some deriving from the publications:

„WHAT IS SOCIAL-DEMOCRACY – a book about ideas and challenges” by the authors Ingvar Carlsson, former Prime-Minister of Sweden and president of the Social-democratic workers party and An-Marie Lindgren, head of Swedish social-democratic think-tank;
This publication is presenting the ongoing debate and ideological tradition in Sweden, shaped in the last 100 years and its development and growth from the theoretical debate into a successful practical policy, followed by periods of changes in the society and its reflections in politics. It represents an introduction into social democratic ideological history and the modifications necessary due to a changing world. |

„DEVELOPMENT OF SOCIAL-DEMOCRACY – short history” and “SOCIAL-DEMOCRACY TODAY – 10 determinations” by the author Gjorgi Spasov, Dean of the Law Faculty at the European University-Skopje and former Secretary General of the Social-democratic Union of Macedonia.

These publications are representing the attempt of the author to reunite the ideological identity and to present the historical roots and developments of Social Democracy in Macedonia. Moreover by delivering and presenting the changed priorities and determinations of the new social democracy in Macedonia and in general in the world these books are basically promoters of recognizable social democratic values and political ideas in the 21st century.

The promotion of the publications offered the opportunity to initiate a wider debate on the ideas and the values of social-democracy, its practical realization in Macedonia, as well as the perspectives for future development of Social Democracy. The experiences among Swedish and Macedonian social-democrats have been shared during the debate. Furthermore, in the second part of the event, distinguished politicians, academics, analysts and civil sector representatives have debated the challenges for Social Democracy and presented their views and recommendations concerning the stages of development and advancement of Social Democracy in Macedonia.
